Passion for Piano

The piano is one of my best friends. No joke. Maybe a little... Anyways, I have heard people call the piano "the most beautiful instrument on earth". Well, you better believe it because pianos can be played at almost any age and there are so many possibilities that come from a piano. Musical composition possibilities. Oh yeah. I have made some of my own music, but it's not worth mentioning. Everything I play isin the key of C. If for some strage alienistic reason I end up making an album I will name it "Key of C". Sounds lame, but that's exactly what it is.

I listen to piano when I study, when I'm getting ready for bed, when I'm online, when I'm driving... I listen to music almost compulsively and whenever I do it's either cute love songs, country, or piano. Piano is music you can listen to anytime. It's awesome when piano is your favorite music. Youcan listen to it and it gives you double the peace and inspitarion. I also daydream a ton, so a good piano song can make me think for hours. But hey,

"Everything starts as somebody's daydream."            -Larry Niven

My favorite music genre is piano, no doubt about it. I'm not going to say it's the easiest instrument to compose music one, it's just easier than most. Sometimes I get so into piano I compose an entire song 20 minutes, but I usually don't have time to write it down and I end up forgetting it the next day. It's sad, really. But when a song I compose does stick in my mind I remake the song through Noteflight.
It's an amazing website where you can create your own music. The best part about this website is that there are multiple instruments to chose from, and the website play your notes outloud! Even when you first sign up you are given multiple instrument options, you can change the key and time signature, and you can hear how your music sounds as you're composing! It's a dream come true!!! I very much suggest this to you if you are someone who wants to compose their music digitally in the easiest way possible.

For school I am required to write four small papers and one big research one. For one of my four small ones I wrote a long poem about how piano is so influential and truely is the most beautiful instrument ever created. I bet it's not even formatted correctly! Even though I've never been into writing poetry past Haikus, I thought this poem hit a home run.

Music is Life
Music starts to flow through your fingers,
The way a river flows through a valley,
It does not involve math, or numbers, or reading,
It’s about something else entirely.

When your fingers tap the notes,
Of those angelic keys you know so well.
Your spirit and soul will start to float,
As far as you eyes can tell.

It starts with a chord.
Then an arpeggio, mezzo piano, crescendo.
And soon you’ll tell you’re in another world;
A world of peace where melodies grow.

You’ve developed for so long
And now it’s time to show you can really shine
For when you start to express your heart through song
Beauty and peace will build line by line

Not by note,
Measure by measure,
You will start to find music is your greatest treasure

It sends a message pure
So clear to dazzling
Soon you’ll see that you’ve been lured
Back to that seat again and again

Suddenly your fingers stop
The fluttering they have done all along
The crowd cheers and everyone starts to clap
And you sadden because the song can’t be prolonged.

But you stand and bow
Like you’ve just changed the world
Because you feel something inside
That starts to unfurl.

You open your eyes
And you are sitting at your home
sitting on your piano bench
Where your imagination roams

You know you will play one day
On that stage shining in the spotlight
Because you know you can change the world
When you know that music is your life.

Pretty boss, huh? This is just what piano is! It makes you feel great things that you couldn't feel otherwise. It's truely something amazing.

My Sewing Projects

Sewing is the best thing that has ever happened in human history. Sewing is definitely my biggest passion, and I soon want to take clothing construction classes over the summer at the local college so I can actually create all my clothing visions! In the meantime, I'm sticking with patterns.

First of all, I would love to thank Simplicity, McCall's, and Vogue patterns for providing such beautiful patterns for clothing that I can make right at home whenever I please. Also to Joanne's fabric stores for providing nearly all the fabric for my projects. I have so much fun doing these, and the wonderful pattern and fabric makers of these companies are making my dreams come true. Even though I don't know you guys, you're pretty dang awesome.

And, my mom loves sewing as well, so she was and is willing to help me during tough/new steps and translate the instructions for me. I'm working to understand them on my own, but mom has helped me a lot so I don't screw up. She's awesome, so I should thanks her too. Thanks mom!

This is simply going to be a collection of all my projects. I strive towards sewing dresses that have sleeves and skirts that go down to at least my knees. I call them 'fidget-free' dresses. No pulling up or down, just clothes that are easy to wear but are still very stylish and cute. This is merely just a gallery, so I hope you enjoy all my creations, because I sure did, and do!

My Halloween costume and the perfect dress to wear to the Renaissance Fair this summer. Took us 23.5 hours to finish. Whew!

This dress is SUPER fun to wear. The zippers on the hips tie the whole thing together. And, they're real pockets. Who doesn't love pockets?

Properly named my "Picnic" shirt. Awesome to wear during the summer. I wore it to the 4th of July, and wore it like a champion.

My Valentine's Day dance dress. (Blush) The pattern originally had no sleeves, so I created my own. Yup, those are some pretty nifty improv. sleeves is you ask me. Too adorable to handle.

I made the skirt, and I just happened to have a shirt that matched it perfectly (unintentionally). This skirt is feminine because of the ruffles, and spicy because of it's color. The best skirt to spin in EVER!

I call this my 'Cinderella' dress. It is the first one I have ever made, and it turned out great! This is the best dress to spin in. Light, spinny, beautiful... sign me up.

And this is my pride and joy! My homecoming 2014 dress!! I'm so proud of it!

My Mission Statement

It seems as though every successful business has a mission statement. It might be kind of silly, but if we wanted to be successful wouldn't a mission statement help us through the times we think we can't do it. Well, think about it: there are some very successful businesses out there who have superb mission statements, and why can't we sound superb too? Here are a few awesome ones...

(All the fallowing mission statements are provided by www.missionstatements.com.)

1. Ford Motor Company - "We are a global family with a proud heritage passionately committed to providing personal mobility for people around the world."

2. Microsoft - "At Microsoft, we work to help people and business throughout the world realize their full potential. This is our mission. Everything we do reflects this mission and the values that make it possible."

3. NIKE Inc - " To Bring Inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world. "

And many, many others, but these are more of my personal favorites. The ones that were simple, short, yet sent a powerful message about what they were all about and what their company's goal is.

When I was in early morning seminary, my teacher gave us a lesson on what our mission statements should be. It truly is a deep thing to think about. You start to think, "What is my purpose in life?" Or maybe, "How could I possibly change the world?" To start, we all have a purpose. No matter how great or small, we are all influential. You may be a working mother or father trying to get by, but think about how all your hard work is going to pay off and how much others will recognize your unstoppable determination.

You may be a student, like me, in school who has trouble with either grades, students, etc. Grades are degrading. I'm serious! If you have an A, you are praised by fellow students and their teachers. But if you were like me and don't make the honor roll every year, you or others will make you feel like you are incompetent or not smart because you are not that shining gold student who's perfect in every way. By that point (when I was still in public school) I was feeling pretty crummy about myself, and felt that no one payed attention to me because of my low grades and shyness. Which was true, but I'll save you the sob story. Anyway, I felt that no one really cared. In public school, if you don't fit the standard, you are rejected. At least, that was my case. But when I decided to be homeschooled my freshman year of high school, I started realizing that public school was stressing me out so much that I wasn't paying attention to my emotional or social growth, only my academic. Later that year, I had discovered a passion for baking pastries and other treats, sewing, crocheting, and other crafts which I still do to this day.

Now all of these things were fun for a while until I didn't have enough money for the yarn I wanted and I had gained a jean size from eating too many pecan bars. But I still loved doing them whenever I could, so I decided to give a plate to the boy I liked from my church. He was genuinely surprised, and from that day on It became a new high for me. About once or twice a month I would go on "Pecan Bar Runs," and it was so amazing to see everyone's smiling faces. We soon started having sign classes for a deaf boy in our ward, so I baked treats every Friday for when the classes were over. I started saving up some money from the weekly paper route I did (passed down to me from my brothers) and bought some yarn. I eventually ended up with a bunch of colors, and I knew I could never use these all on myself. So, I started making animal hats for the young women in my ward. They soon figured out how time consuming they were, so I have been taking a break from them. It was always so amazing to watch them open their gift and find a soft animal hat that was beyond adorable.

Finally, it hit me. After all the things that I have done in life, the things that I remember most are times when I made others feel happy. I now know what my mission statement is:

"To spread as many smiles as possible."

Its simple, it says it, and it reflects everything I have done. For those who don't like to read and scrolled down to the bottom, let me say real quick that the quicker you find our own personal mission statements, the happier you will be. There is a quote I love about happiness that I had just recently wrote in my quote book:

"There is no happiness except in the realization that we have accomplished something."  -Henry Ford

I guess this quote doesn't really relate entirely, but I sure was happier when I had discovered how to be happy while influencing others around me to be better as well. You may not know it, but people are watching you, so you have to be an example. (I also learned that in seminary.) Be your best, and people will give you their best back. When you recognize your full potential and grow confident in your abilities, you will influence others more that you realize...

Sammydress Review

I have read some pretty frightening reviews by Sammydress saying things like "Oh, the quality was so terrible!" and another said, "I've spent $200 on Sammydress, and the package hasn't showed up yet! I keep on complaining and all they've sent me is apologies and excuses!" (I can't exactly quote these reviewers.) If you have had a bad experience with Sammydress, then I'm sorry. I have had an overall enjoyable experience with them, and I would love to write about their website in my own words and from my own experience.

Sammydress is a Chinese clothing wholesale shop online that sells clothing, jewelry, shoes, and many other things. When I first discovered Sammydress, I was extremely excited at the huge amounts of clothing they were showing. Then I clicked on the cutest maxi dress I have ever seen, and saw that it was only 12.45 USD. My jaw dropped. How could this website sell something that cheap yet it looks so dang cute?! I started looking at nearly their entire clothing selection, and started flooding my cart with practically anything that looked frickin' adorable. All the beautiful shirts were all less than $11. Sounds to good to be true right?

I closed the site and enlightened mom on my monumental discovery. She was also amazed, but she put that look on her face like she was having second thoughts about it. She told me to read some reviews to see what people thought about Sammydress. I saw under the website's link that it had a great rating of about four and a half stars from a few hundred people. But I scrolled down and saw that other reviews from resellerratings.com weren't looking so hot. (that was a few months ago. I checked again a few days ago and saw that the rating had gone up a bit, which made me feel better.) People were bagging on Sammydress calling it a scam and a fraud.

Well, I decided to go with my gut and buy the two dresses I had my eye on. I decided to only order two items because the reviews had mentioned that ordering large quantities of clothing was a bad idea and would end in disaster. I shrugged at this thought and ordered the two dresses, just in case.

I had never ordered anything from overseas, so I didn't know that  the shipping was going to take so long. Eventually, you start to lose track of the days, and it took a little less than a month for the package to arrive. I was going to complain, but it made sense that cheap clothing from overseas would take a bit longer to ship. It finally arrived! Being very excited I opened it and pulled one dress out. But I realize something... there's only one dress in the package, and the one that didn't arrive was the one I wanted most. I was very angry, then realized why the prices were so cheap: So if something didn't arrive it wouldn't be a big deal financially. And the color of the one dress I did receive was different than the picture online. The floral fabric pattern looked the same, but it looked like a tannish/cream in the picture. The picture was probably edited, so I ended up getting a dress that didn't fit my standards.

I forgot about Sammydress for a few months, then decided to give it another try. I had forgotten my want to help businesses no matter what their circumstances. It sounds like I felt sorry for them, but really I felt that I should give them another chance. So I did. I only ordered one item so they couldn't possibly get it wrong, right? Since it took a month to get here, I decided to buy a swimming suit. I had been searching for adorable one-piece swimsuits all over the web. Etsy came really close, but I admit, the swimming suit I had ordered from Sammydress was the c.u.t.e.s.t. thing I have ever seen in my life. No more swim suit shopping ever again. The total for the swimsuit and shopping was $40. Not bad. After the expected one month wait, it finally arrived.

I have not been more satisfied with anything I have ever bought online in my life. I expected it to just not be right, but it exceeded all of my expectations. It was very high quality, and it looked exactly like the picture. EXACTLY! It was a swimming suit sent from heaven. Heaven I tell you! I'm sure glad that  I made another order to Sammydress.

Now I can't go a day without browsing Sammydress for which things I can purchase. I still make minimum orders though. But because I was so satisfied with my swimsuit I felt that I could trust them with an order of not one, but three clothing items. A dress, a jacket to match, and an adorably loose floral shirt. Another month later, I received my package and all three items were present. The dress was the biggest disappointment, but really not that much of one in the first place. It was a little shorter than the picture depicted, and the blue ribbon around the waist was a different shade of blue. My younger sister gladly accepted the dress and commented, "You got that from Sammydress?! That's adorable!" She sure was right. I would've worn if myself it it were longer, but, oh well. The jacket fit very well and the shirt was beyond adorable.

My overall review: 4 Stars. If you are looking for great quality clothing with decent shipping that will live to every one of your expectations, you better find a different website. This website is not for picky people. If you are a humble shopper who can't resist clothing for that cheap of a price (and you can wait  a month for a clothing order) then Sammydress is the perfect clothing site for you. I will certainly keep ordering from this site, and if you have had a bad experience with them, then I suggest a small order and please be patient with them. It takes a few orders, but you'll get used to it real quick. I've had an overall good experience with them, and I do recommend the site.

 Update - August 8th, 2015:

My mom had ordered a shirt, jacket and necklace for me as a Christmas present. We waited for two months (double the usual wait time) and realized that my package wasn't coming. We tried contacting customer service, but all they did was ask us for our order number a few times, then asked us to give them additional shipping charges. A few weeks later, only my necklace had arrived, but it was the wrong color my mom had ordered.

We received an email shortly after I the necklace had been delivered saying that the other two items my mom had ordered were out of stock, now three months after my mom ordered them. Just our luck. We once again gave them the ID numbers of the clothes we had ordered, and after another request for more shipping charges, we gave up. My items still haven't arrived and I know they never will.

My new rating for Sammydress: 3 stars. The customer service isn't very effective and I'm sure it's all done through a translator instead of a real person. My mom wasted $40 plus an additional shipping charge for a package that will never come. We tolerated them for three months, but we stopped contacting them because we seemed to be going in circles with customer service and not accomplishing anything. The way they even sent me the wrong color of necklace was sort of..... pathetic.

I don't wish to order from them again, but I've never been the kind of person to say anything is so terrible you shouldn't give it a chance. I'll leave the decision of whether to order their products or not up to you. In any case, I wish you the best of luck and that you don't get tangled with customer service, because that's not a battle worth taking.

Horses Are The Best!

Now if I'm going to talk about anything I care about it's going to be about horses. I'm a whole new level of "What's your favorite animal?". Just like crafting, horses have always been part of my life. First of all, let's start by getting pumped about horses because of how amazing they are:

1. They are one of the most graceful animals ever. Yes, ever. Their flowing manes and tails just can't be beat.

2. They make wonderful pets and great companions. My old horseback riding instructor told me one day, "Want to spend a million dollars? Own a horse." She was a Debby Downer, but if I had a million dollars to spend it would definately be for a fast horse that I could ride wherever and whenever I wanted.

3. I seriously think that there is no better animal than a horse. Dogs are man's best friend, but you can't really do that much with them. Walks and petting are fun, but with horses you interact with them much more deeply than a dog. Cats are just evil.

4. Horses have aided is humans for centuries. They pulled carriages, mine carts, and basically everything else that's beyond the capability of humans. They're not really needed today, but that doesn't mean we love then any less.

For these reasons and many more, I have loved horses all my life. Actually, just kidding. My mom told me once that I didn't like horses, but I couldn't believe it. But mom said that I suddenly started loving horses like crazy after we saw Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmeron. Okay, Spirit is definately one of the best movies of all time. No joke! I have never watched a movie since then that has made me feel so many emotions so vividly. If you haven't seen this masterpiece, I will gladly enlighten you.

The movie starts with pure, inspireing music which sets the mood for you. Then the narrorator's voice (Spirit's voice/thoughts) gives you the best intro to any movie and gives you goosebumps when the herd's running free with, again, the best movie score for a horse movie. Spirit is born, and we watch his life as a foal. He is very curious and is very spirited at heart (no duh), and he grows into a fine stallion and becomes leader of the herd. His curiosity gets the best of him one night when he ventures to find out what an orange glow was in the distance. He meets a group of coyboys and is very clever about his escape until he is unexpectadly captured. He is taken to a war camp in the middle of the desert where countless soldiers try to break him, but he won't let them have him. While tied to a post for 3 days to lessen his strength, he meets an indian (Little Creek) who was soon to becone his best friend. Together, they eventually escape the camp and free all the other horses who were there as well. He thinks he's home free, until he spots a beautiful mare, who happens to be Little Creek's horse, and spirit is captured again. (In a much more friendly manner.) Spirit follows the mare (Rain) around the village and soon realizes that the horses there had freedom, even though they weren't wild. When all seems to be going perfect, soldiers from the previous camp suddenly raid the village, and Spirit is captured one again and taken to an area where they were constructing a railroad. All the horses recruited there are forced to pull a freight train up the mountain side. Spirit realizes that the road is leading to his home, and he cleverly frees all the horses while destroying the train and the town below in the process. Little Creek finds him again, and they have a final showdown with the soldiers. Spirit again proves that they cound't tame him, and the General of the camp lets him go. Rain, Spirit, And Little Creek have a very emotional reunion, then Little Creek let's Rain free with Spirit. The movie ends when Spirit and Rain are reunited with the herd, and then the best movie of all time ends. Dang it.

This movie not only has great songs and a great plot, it also teaches that the spirit, if strong, can never be broken. Like a boss. Other than loving horses, this movie relates to me because I have a desire for freedom and it also reasurres me that if I stay heldfast to my goals and dreams I am unstoppable. So this movie was practically written for me. No better movie could have shaped my childhood as much as this one did.

So horses really are more inspiring than most people thnk they are. That's the bottom line. To truely get into the spirit of horses (puns), I will post some of my favorite horse pictures from Google Images.

Oh yeah. Horses are the best animal. I rode them English saddle for years, and I love them more and more every time I see one!

Intro

Now, if you really want to know something about me I guess I can start by saying that I am a teen who hates school and I have an amazing ammount of potential. I am currently reading the book "Hacking Your Education" by Dale J. Stephens, and it has convinced me to start up a blog and write about my likes, talents, life events, ect. So this blog is probably just going to be a blog about me and my talents.

I love crafting SOOOO much! It started when I colored on the walls when I was a toddler, and I'm still crafting today. My favorites are sewing, crocheting, and scrapbooking. I mean seriously, crafting basically means that you are making something adorable that no one will find anywhere else. Everything a crafter makes is unique. With clothes that you sew: not everyone makes more than half their Sunday dresses prom patterns like I do. I will be posting photos when I sew something new.

I have many dreams of success. I want to learn how to start making clothing without a pattern so I can REALLY make somehing no one has seen before. And after a few years of sewing classes and a few entrepreneur classes, my main life goal is to open my own clothing shop that will sell cute feminine clothing for teens to young adult girls. And because I am a mormon, I plan to make every single one of these clothing items appropriate. Appropriate as in no tank tops, crop tops or daisy dukes. My clothes are all going to be comfortable to wear without having to worry about pulling your skirt down or pulling your shirt up every 5 seconds. Now don't take this the wrong way. Everyone can wear what they want, no problem. I just don't choose to dress that way. So, I should say that all my clothes will be care-free yet stylish and feminine. I love floral and lace facric, so that will be most of the stock. But there was one thing that was bothering me, "What on earth an I going to call my shop?"

So one day at church all my girl friends sat together in a circle and helped me decide what the name of my shop should be. Everyone was throwing out answers and I happened to catch a few of them:

1. Abby's Wares (sounds like a thrift store)
2. Abby Amour (to hard to say)
3. The Non-Fidget Shop (I don't know who would name their store that, but probably not me)
4. Abby's Classies (classes for what?)
5. Classy Abby's

Bingo. Classy Abby's was the name that we all agreed on. Mainly because I am called classy whenever I sew something... well... classy. The desision isn't really final, but it's the best name we have thought of so far. I have always loved the idea of starting my own business, and I always beg mom to take me to those private business shops so I can buy something to help thme out. But I'm not made of money and I can't drive yet. So, yeah.

(Have a cute store name? Please comment below. I would love some cute store name ideas!)

Yet again, it always makes me sad to see a little shop someone's doing their best at running not get many people to come it. It probably sounds silly, but I always think, "Come on people! They're just trying their best!" Shops like these need support. I don't even know why I'm mentioning this because I don't know how I could help them other than buying something from their shop. I wish I could somehow.

But even when I see these shops, it still doesn't keep me from opening my business. I guess I'm pretty much unstoppable. I'm willing to take two jobs this summer so I can start saving for my future business, and also take classes at CCAC (a local college that gives classes to the public) so I can get a general idea of how to start a business, an idea of marketing, and especially try to master how to create my own constructed clothing. This might be the first summer when I'm going to be busy almost every day. But it's my dream and I'm willing to work hard for it. I have to start now, or else I might never get to it. The book I mentioned at the beginning has inspired me to do this, and I know that there is no better time than now to get started fulfulling my dream.

Because of this, I need to get used to posting on a blog so I can also get used to writing. I love writing for fun, and now I'm getting really really excited about it. So hopefully I will write about... well I can't really tell you, but I will write about what needs to be written as daily as I can.

To wrap this post up I guess I can end by saying that I love the feeling of responsibility and love being busy. Especially when that busy is a busy about something you love to do. I do believe I can succeed, and I can't wait for summer to start. Until then, I'll write down all my ideas and what I have learned on this here blog of mine. Wow, this summer's going to be the best summer ever!
